Share “Pogo the Clown” was born in late 1975, when Gacy joined the Jolly Joker Clown Club, a group of amateur clowns that often entertained hospitalized children. As a Jolly Joker, Gacy created his performance character – Pogo – and even designed his own costumes and makeup. Some evidence suggests that Gacy created Pogo to be the ultimate scary evil clown: when doing his makeup, he made sure to draw sharp corners at the edge of his mouth instead of the rounded borders employed by professional clowns so as not to scare children.
